Work ongoing to resolve flooding issues at Lymm

WORK is ongoing in a bid to resolve flooding issues on Oughtrington Lane at Lymm.

The road near Lymm High School was closed last week following heavy rain caused by Storm Babet which left a number of roads in the village inaccessible.

Heavy rainfall has caused flooding issues on the road several times in recent years, causing access issues for Lymm High School.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We have identified two issues causing flooding on Oughtrington Lane and we are working to resolve these.
“There are two separate drainage systems at this location. One runs through the school grounds and we believe it’s been cut off. The other runs into a combined system on Oughtrington Lane. The highway gullies and manhole were completely silted up and preventing the road from draining. These were cleansed on Monday morning and the flooding drained.
“The school closes for half term next week and we plan to carry out further investigation works, along with looking at how we can increase the capacity of the systems.”

  1. On Tuesday afternoon 24/10/2023 four of the gullies around the recently flooded area on Oughtrington Lane appeared to be cleared, seven gullies in this area were still blocked, and were notified to WBC Tuesday evening. It looked like gullies further up Oughtrington lane were also blocked, and there are gullies further downhill that have been blocked for over 12 months (have been reported). The snippet about a drain going across LHS property seems to be fairly well known (United Utilities mentioned this around 9th Sept 2021 when this road section flooded twice in a month)
(This is being escalated via Parish and Borough Councillors, no feedback from WBC yet)
