“Massive” traveller encampment ignores notice to quit Silver Lane and faces court action

A “massive” unauthorised traveller encampment of 20 caravans and associated vehicles has failed to vacate Silver Lane at Risley and will now face court action.

The encampment arrived last Thursday and was served with a notice to quit the site by today Monday, on Friday.

Local Cllr Wendy Maisey, who has been liaising with Warrington Borough Council in a bid to resolve the issue visited the site again, today.

She said: “I went back up to the Silver Lane traveller encampment earlier this morning and am hugely disappointed to see no movement despite the legal notice to move on being served last Friday. I’m awaiting an update from the relevant stakeholders.

Describing the encampment as “massive” she visited the site last Friday and saw a mixture of Irish & UK vehicles.
She said: “It appears the council-run Halton transit site is FULL which shows its working and travellers are willing to use it and pay for the privilege.
“I will AGAIN write to WBC to ask for an urgent update on the proposed transit site which has been in consultation with the labour-run council for over 10 years now!”
Warrington Borough Council has ring-fenced funds to set up an authorised traveller site in the town but has failed to come up with a location despite a working group being set up to try and resolve the issue.

  1. How come that the police in Knutsford can get the travellers moved on the same day they arrive? This has happened twice in the past month, They arrive on the green overnight and are gone by lunchtime the same day.
