The time has come around again for one of the biggest horse racing events of the year, Royal Ascot. We’ve been marking the days down in our calendars, fervently waiting to place our bets.

We’ve compiled a list of our favourites to win in some of the Royal Ascot feature races, based on expert advice and experience.
We’ll start with arguably the most prestigious feature race of Royal Ascot, the Gold Cup. This race was established back in 1807, and is always the busiest day of Ascot, with racegoers prioritising high fashion as well as betting! The most famous names in the Gold Cup are of course the notorious Yeats, who triumphed in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009, and Stradivarius, who just fell short of Yeats’ accomplishments by winning in 2018, 2019, and 2020. This year’s favourites are Coltrane, Eldar Eldarov, and Emily Dickinson, who are already cropping up a lot in punters’ bets.
The feature race of the first day of Royal Ascot is the King’s Stand Stakes. This race regularly attracts some of the fastest horses in the world to compete, and this year is no different. The current ante-post favourite is Highfield Princess, closely followed by Coolangatta, who recently won the Group 1 Black Caviar Lightning at Flemington this past February.
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes is the feature race on day two. Horses aged four years and older are eligible to take part, and previous winners of this Group 1 competition have included So You Think, Duke Of Marmalade, and, most recently, State Of Rest. The current ones to watch include Luxembourg and Adayar, both currently sitting at odds of around 9/4 to take home the crown.
Betting Tricks and Tips
The best piece of advice we can give to anybody wanting to place bets on the Royal Ascot is to do a lot of research before choosing a horse for any of the races. Take a look at the current trends and statistics, to find out information like which type of horses have previously won feature races.
We also recommend taking a look at horses who have performed well previously. For example, Rohaan, trained by David Evans, has won four out of the six races he has run at Ascot, and this record may well be improved this year during the recently-renamed Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
