THE NHS was recently celebrated in 10 Downing Street with a reception to thank workers from all across the UK, including two from Warrington.

Representing Warrington South were Appleton GP Dr Rashmi Jain and her husband Dr Ashutosh Jain, a consultant urologist, who were invited by local Member of Parliament Andy Carter.
Dr Rashmi Jain is the Chair of the Local Medical Council and played a big role in helping to deliver the Covid vaccine rollout in Warrington in 2021. She joined Stretton Medical Centre in 2007 and her practice covers one of the largest areas in Warrington South, providing services to around 8,000 patients.

Before embarking to Downing Street, the couple were given a personal tour of the Palace of Westminster by Andy Carter MP and his staff, as well as the chance to watch proceedings in the House of Commons from the viewing gallery. The reception in Number 10 was hosted by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Steve Barclay MP, who was on hand to welcome and thank the NHS attendees on behalf of the Government.
Dr Rashmi Jain said: “My husband and I were so thrilled to get invited to 10 Downing Street to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the NHS. We had the most wonderful experience meeting politicians and getting applauded for our services to the community; it was like living a dream. It made us so proud to be part of the NHS.”

Mr Carter said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to welcome Dr Rashmi Jain and her husband Dr Ashutosh Jain to Downing Street for a special reception to celebrate local NHS champions. They have made a massive contribution to healthcare provision in our town throughout their careers and I know their services are greatly appreciated by their patients.
“The NHS is receiving record funding. We’ve opened a new breast screening unit in Warrington in the last week, 12 months ago we opened a new same day emergency treatment centre at Warrington Hospital, and there are more doctors and nurses than ever before with even more being trained. As we celebrate 75 years since the founding of the National Health Service, it’s a moment to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributes to delivering NHS care in Warrington South and across the country.”
