VILLAGERS took to the streets for the biggest community event of the year at Grappenhall Village Walking Day & Summer Fair.

The event was blessed with fine weather as St Wilfrid’s Church and Friends of St Wilfrid’s Primary School joined forces for the annual Walking Day event.

Church members, school children, all the uniformed organisations and local residents took part in the walk from school, around Grappenhall and back to the school field where they held their Summer Fair. Hundreds of people turned out to take part in what is an annual walk of witness.

There was a short service on the school field to send us on our way with an emphasis on the importance of community and working together. Accompanied by a brass or silver band the walk was lined along the way by well-wishers and there is a real atmosphere of celebration.

Amy Ryan was crowned new Rose Queen, who crowned Prince Joshua.
