Earthquake appeal fundraiser raises over £16,000

COMMUNITY members, Cllrs. and council officers came together for a fundraiser dinner event at the Cinnamon Lounge Restaurant, Warrington, to help raise much-needed funds for the victims of the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

A total of £1,850 was raised at the event thanks to the restaurant making donations of 40% of the food bill, while a further £14,500 was raised by the Muslim Community, resulting in a total of £16,350.

Volunteers from Warrington will be travelling to the affected areas to provide assistance and ensure 100% of the funds raised reach the victims of the earthquake.

Cllr Mo Hussain, one of the organisers, thanked everyone for their support and said it was heart-warming to see so many donating amidst, for many people, a financially difficult time. He also thanked Cinnamon Lounge for their generosity and continuous support in hosting various fundraisers.
Cllr Sagheer Zaman added, “It’s been reported that over 45,000 have died, with many thousands more injured in these catastrophic earthquakes in Turkey & Syria. I would like to express my deep sadness and sincere condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. A massive thank to the Warrington community for their kindness and generosity with donations which have been overwhelming and inspiring.”
Cllr Tony Higgins praised the work of the local Muslim community and fundraisers for their contribution towards supporting those affected by this disaster.
The Director of Cinnamon Lounge, Imran Malik, also thanked everyone who contributed. To raise this much, not long after fundraising for Ukraine, proves Warrington as a community can do great things!
