POLICE are investigating after vandals set fire to bird hide at Warrington last night.
The blaze on the Transpennine Trail, off Eastford Road, was reported shortly before 9pm Fire engines from Warrington and Stockton Heath went to the scene.
The bird hide was well alight by the time crews arrived.
Crews immediately suspected the blaze had been started deliberately.
Because of the remote location of the fire, fire engines were unable to get close to the scene so firefighters used a water backpack to put out the flames and then began cutting away the structure and damping the area down.
An additional fire engine attended to assist with getting sufficient water supplies by pumping from open water.
