Derelict KFC shop may be given new lease of life

A DERELICT shop in Warrington town centre could be given a new lease of life if plans submitted to the borough council are given the go-ahead.

The proposals involve the former Kentucky Fried Chicken shop at the corner of Winwick Street and Haydock Street which was also latterly a hairdressing salon.

AMA Properties have put forward plans to re-develop the ground floor of the premises to form a restaurant and takeaway with a first-floor house-in-multiple occupation, with eight units, above.
The applicant says the existing roof leaks, and the building is infected with dry rot and is becoming unstable.
A full refurbishment would take place with new UPVC windows, back to brick strip internally and externally it will be re-rendered to bring back some “classic character” to the building.
The roof would be altered to gain unhindered access to the second floor.
External changes would be minimal and would be in keeping with the existing street scene.
