A FOOD surplus distribution charity that supports low-income families in the community has received a £1,000 donation from Amazon fulfilment centre in Warrington.

The Bread and Butter Thing (TBBT) provides affordable food packages to help make life more affordable for people living in over 70 low income communities across the north of England, while also reducing food waste. TBBT redistributes more than 100 tonnes of food per week, the equivalent of almost 250,000 meals for the community.

TBBT also offers advice and practical solutions for dealing with debt, managing utilities, accessing mental health support and help with housing.
This donation follows Amazon’s first support of The Bread and Butter Thing in 2020, when the team made a £12,000 donation to help the community during Covid-19. Since then, Amazon has been a regular supporter of the charity, with employees volunteering for The Bread and Butter Thing projects, while also making product donations.
The donation from Amazon Warrington will be used to support the opening of new projects in the area, where five projects will be operational before the end of the year.

James Pitt, Site Leader at Amazon in Warrington, said: “The staff and volunteers at The Bread and Butter Thing offer vital support to vulnerable people in the Warrington community and we’re pleased to lend a helping hand with this donation.”
Ashleigh Green, a receptionist at Amazon in Warrington who nominated the charity for this donation, added: “I’m glad Amazon is supporting the team The Bread and Butter Thing. The charity does great work and is a support to many and I know that the charity will welcome this donation with open arms.”
Mark Game, CEO of The Bread and Butter Thing, said: “We want to thank James and the Amazon team in Warrington for this donation. This fantastic gesture from Amazon will help us to continue our work in supporting families across Warrington.”

The donation to The Bread and Butter Thing was made as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
Amazon is providing disadvantaged students with online STEM courses as well as teaming up with charity partner Magic Breakfast and delivering more than five million healthy breakfasts to families in England.
