Retirement home specialist McCarthy & Stone seeks planning permission for 45 apartments at Lymm

RETIREMENT home specialist McCarthy & Stone has applied for planning permission for a new development at Lymm involving 45 apartments.

Describing themselves as the UK’s leading developer and manager of retirement homes, McCarthy & Stone has submitted a planning application to Warrington Borough Council to develop land at Watercress Farm, Lymm with high-quality Retirement Living accommodation.

The plans represent a great opportunity to develop specialist housing for older people on a site allocated for new homes in Warrington’s emerging Local Plan. The development of apartments includes properties for private sale, rent and part-rent partbuy. The plans propose construction of 45 Retirement Living apartments set amongst attractive, landscaped gardens with on-site parking provision. The proposed development is in a sustainable location near the centre of Lymm, with all the amenities that the village has to offer just a short distance away.

McCarthy Stone has carried out a pre-application public consultation with the local community on its proposals, including a virtual exhibition from the 6th to the 20th of May 2022, which over 2,000 residents, businesses and stakeholders were invited to view.

In response to the consultation several local people expressed an interest in moving into the development once it is completed.

Ian Wilkins, Divisional Managing Director at McCarthy Stone, said: “We are delighted with the response to our proposals, with the several members of the local community expressing interest in the Retirement Living apartments. As well as providing homes more suited to older peoples’ needs, our proposals would therefore free up the local family homes that new residents would move from.

“We were pleased we could still provide so many people the opportunity to view our plans and are happy with the positive responses we’ve received.”

McCarthy Stone is an increasingly popular choice for the retiring population and feedback from existing homeowners supports this with 9 out of 10 customers saying their new property has improved their quality of life. The apartments can also help to tackle loneliness, with 83% of customers saying that they experience a sense of community in their new home and 91% saying they
have good access to local amenities.

  1. Haha, very subtle (NOT). How much did you have pay for this PR piece M&S? Nice try anyway. There is massive opposition to this development in the village, and the land is still greenbelt and therefore not deliverable. Keep up the old PR spin game tho, is hilarious

  2. This is a really good opportunity to provide desperately needed retirement accommodation in Lymm rather than these large detached houses that few can afford!
