Launch of Warrington’s all-electric Car Club

A brand new Car Club – giving people the opportunity to hire pay-as-you-go electric vehicles – has officially launched in Warrington.

The two MG ZS Electric Vehicles are now on-site in specially-designated bays at Time Square car park. By signing up to the Car Club, people can hire a car on an hourly basis, providing a convenient, environmentally friendly way of travelling in and around the town.

Warrington Car Club has been commissioned by Warrington Borough Council and is managed by Co Wheels. As well as providing an environmentally friendly alternative to car ownership, and responding to an increase in town centre living, the scheme can also save its members up to £1,000 a year on motoring costs.

The Council’s Cabinet Member for highways and transportation, Cllr Hans Mundry and Chair of Warrington’s Climate Commission, Cllr David Ellis visited Time Square car park on Thursday 5 May to welcome the new cars to Warrington.

Cllr Mundry, said: “I’m delighted our new Car Club is officially launching. This is a really exciting project, which will give people an alternative to car ownership, while supporting our work to provide new, sustainable transport options for local people.

“It’s the latest part of our transport plan for the town centre, which is dedicated to cutting congestion and emissions, reducing car dependency and transforming the way people travel.”

Cllr Ellis added: “Building sustainable transport into our lives is just one of the steps we can take to help tackle the climate emergency. I began driving an electric car a few years ago, and it has been a hugely positive experience. I’m looking forward to our Car Club being equally positive for Warrington residents, giving them the chance to try out an electric vehicle for themselves, and take the next step in their switch to greener travel.”

Research by Co Wheels shows that car clubs have reduced car dependence with, on average, each car club car removing between 10 and 15 privately owned cars from traffic. Car club members also walk, cycle and use public transport more after joining a club.

Richard Falconer, Head of Locations and Commercial Development at Co Wheels, said “There are a lot of great initiatives and effort going in to reduce carbon emissions in Warrington. We are absolutely delighted to work alongside the Council in providing low carbon vehicles as part of a pay-as-you-go car club for residents and businesses to use.

“With the majority of cars sitting on the drive 97% of the time, we’re making it more accessible for people to have the option to hire an electric pay-as-you-go car for the 3% of time they do need to use a car, rather than owning their own vehicle – it’s far cheaper and better for the environment this way.”

I was looking for ways to improve my credit. I ran across FIXMYCREDITat WRITEMEd0t c0m. After hearing their story I purchased their Ebook and the information has helped me tremendously and also saved me more $ from other credit companies. It’s great knowing that we have people like that helping people learn to repair our own credit at a low cost and get the same or better results.
