Celebrations as Warrington Library returns home after vital repairs

CELEBRATIONS took place recently as the final 100 books from the pop-up museum and library in Golden Square were transported back to their home at Warrington Library.

The building, which includes Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, was officially re-opened following a £360,000 investment in roof repairs.

As part of the reopening celebrations, on World Book Night (Saturday 23rd April), LiveWire’s Library team welcomed volunteers who helped to transport the remaining 100 books and remaining museum exhibits from the pop-up library in Golden Square, which has been their home since to the Museum and Library on Museum Street.

The symbolic transfer was part of a day of free family celebrations to mark the reopening of the much-loved building including a family-friendly takeover of the whole building.

The activities included trails and treasure hunts, and drop-in activities such as crafts and storytelling as well as workshops and performances. There were goody bags for children and free World Book Night books for the first 100 visitors.

The relaunch also means Culture Warrington’s award-winning programme of events and special exhibitions can continue as well as the likes of family craft sessions. The much-valued archives and local history services will be back too, where people can search their family tree, the history of their house, or learn about the part of Warrington they live in.

Rachel Ralston, LiveWire’s Strategic Library Manager, said: “While we have loved our time at the Pop-Up Museum and Library in Golden Square we are so glad to get back to our home.

“As a symbolic gesture, to help mark the return to the building, we asked people to turn up at the pop-up in Golden Square to help to take the last 100 books and some Museum exhibits from the pop-up to the Library and Museum building. Jet the LiveWire mascot was there to help too!

“Over 40 people joined us for the walk and the rest of the activities across the whole building were a fantastic success.”
