THERE were smiles all around Warrington and Halton hospitals when Easter Eggs and other goodies donated by the public were distributed in the children’s wards.

The Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital’s Charity always attracts plenty of support from the community, local businesses and groups and individuals at Easter – abnd this year was no exception.

Now the charity has thanked everyone who donated generously.

Two such supporters are Darran and Louise O’Neill, who have been donating to the Easter Egg appeal for the last 13 years since the tragic loss of their three-month-old son, James.

This year they dropped off three crates of Easter eggs, as well as an Xbox 360, a mountain bike, Widnes Warriors signed shirt, Warrington Wolves signed rugby ball, signed Liverpool FC ball and a Warrington Wolves champions plaque for the Children’s Ward.

Lorry driver Darran said: “The inspiration came from our son who we wanted to remember. Plus, we wanted to show our support and thanks to the ward that became our family, friends and support network during his short life. We just wish we could do more.”
Warrington Hospital also received its annual Easter visit from Phase 3 Scooter Club, who collectively rode through the hospital grounds stopping only to drop off a large delivery of sweet treats for all of the young patients.

Helen Higginson, WHH Charity’s fundraising manager, said: “The team wishes to acknowledge the wonderful support that we have received. Our patients have been truly uplifted by the kind gifts provided and it is inspiring to be able to share how much our community cares about patients in hospital, especially over the Easter period.”
Darran added: “We cannot buy toys for our son, but what we can do is give back to a small children’s ward community that gave us so much. This way we keep our son’s memory alive and help to support others in need.

“Local hospitals are at the forefront of our local community. They are there for us in our everyday lives – long-term and in an emergency. It is not just about the medical care that is given but the unconditional, professional support that is always shown. It is for this reason that any support that can be given, should be given.”
