Canal-side balcony approved by planners

PLANS for extensions to a two-bedroom bungalow, including a first floor Juliet balcony overlooking the Bridgewater Canal, have been given the go-ahead.

The scheme will result in the number of bedrooms being increased to four at the property in Birchdale Road, Appleton.

Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee approved the scheme despite objections from Appleton Parish Council and a nearby residents.

The parish council objected on the grounds of a loss of privacy for neighbours, especially in regard to the Juliet balcony. The neighbour objected only to a proposed kitchen window.

Officers recommended the scheme approved. They said there would be no unacceptable impacts on visual amenity or the character of the area, nor on the residential amenity of neighbours, parking provision, highway network nor trees within the site.

Although the proposals would result in the roof ridge height being raised by 1.54m, this would not have any significant adverse affect on neighbours.

The rear garden of the property backs onto the Bridgewater Canal.

  1. Well I can’t believe that at last Warrington Council appear to have got it right!

Property owners should be able to enjoy the beautiful surrounding areas of their property. This extension will also enhance not only the existing property but the surrounding area.
