MORE than £1,000 worth of personal hygiene products have been sent to Poland for Ukrainian refugees after a successful charity dinner at a new restaurant in Bridge Street, Warrington.

The event at the Babba Restaurant, which was organised by the former MP for Warrington South Faisal Rashid, also raised £1,000 for Warrington Foodbank.

The Mayor of Warrington, Cllr Maureen Creaghan, was the guest of honour at an event that also showcased traditional Turkish dancing.

“I wanted to do something to help the Ukrainian refugees and to help people in Warrington who are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis and so I picked Care UK and Warrington Foodbank as our two charities,” said Mr Rashid.

“I would like to thank everyone who attended and supported the charity dinner. Every penny raised and donated will make a huge difference to those who desperately need our help.

“Care UK have used the money to buy and transport personal hygiene products to Poland and we have bought £1,000 worth of tinned goods for Warrington Foodbank.

“The event was a big success and I am sure that everyone who attended had a good time. Babba restaurant only opened in December and I would like to thank the owner, Burak Goksu, and his team for their hospitality.”

Mr Rashid, who is the chair of the Warrington South Constituency Labour Party, again urged local people – if possible – to make donations to Warrington Foodbank.

Warrington Foodbank’s website – warrington.foodbank.org.uk – can be consulted for an up-to-date list of items that are urgently needed by families and individuals in need.
