Inspirationl women embark on fund-raising mission for Warrington Youth Zone

A group of inspirational women from Warrington has embarked on a mission to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise money for Warrington Youth Zone.

The women recently conquered one of Britain’s highest peaks in Mount Snowdon recently before they flying out last Friday.

Their challenge has been inspired by the late, great former High Sheriff of Cheshire and Warrington Youth Club Chair Nick ‘Hoppy’ Hopkinson MBE, who passed away last year.

When they scaled Snowdon, they were joined by the Youth Zone’s chair Dave McNicholl.

He said: “We are honoured that the group is taking on this mammoth challenge, which has been fraught with obstacles including the pandemic and ever-changing travel restrictions. It was a poignant week for the all-female group to undertake the challenge as we were celebrating International Women’s Day and each of them are inspirational. All of the funds that the group raise will be used to support children and young people from across Warrington.”

They are being supported by staff members from Warrington Youth Zone, who, at the same time, will be hiking 150 miles around the North West visiting other Youth Zones in the OnSide network. They will start their challenge today, Monday, March 14, visiting eight youth zones in seven days before finishing at the areas in Warrington on 20th March.

While Kilimanjaro women could potentially face inclement weather, altitude sickness, rockfall and accidents, the North-West team potentially face the British weather, main roads, city centres and pigeons!

Together they hope to help raise £50,000 to be donated to Warrington Youth Zone.

Warrington Youth Zone is being developed by the national charity OnSide and will become the new home of local charity Warrington Youth Club.

The Youth Zone is an innovative, state-of-the-art, youth facility located right in the town centre which will be open every day of the year for young people from all backgrounds, aged seven to 19 (up to 25 with additional needs).

Set to open later this year, the Youth Zone is located on Dallam Lane, close to Warrington Central Station and Warrington Bus Station. Members will have access to state-of-the-art facilities including a four-court sports hall, music room, dance studio, gym, training kitchen, climbing walla and much more for a cost of £5 per year and only 50p per visit.
