Plans approved for town centre plastic recycling facility

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a plastic recycling facility in a disused warehouse in Warrington town centre.

Indigo Environmental Ltd – part of the Hut Group – will use the building in Dallam Lane.

Members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee have approved the change of use of the warehouse after hearing there would be no detrimental impact on nearby residents.

Councillors were told the Hut Group was one of the world’s leading online beauty and well-being businesses, retailing to people in 169 countries.

The group’s aim was to send zero waste to landfill by 2030, for all plastic packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025 and to recycle more plastic than they produce by 2030.

They had acquired Widnes-based plastic recycling Indigo to enable them to bring their plastic recycling in-house to ensure their sustainability targets could be met.

Indigo will provide a reliable recycling outlet for the company if relocated to Dallam Lane, where it would employ 40 people, although shift working would mean there would only be 20 on site at any one time.
T
he warehouse, which formerly had planning consent for storage and distribution, occupies an eight acre site.
