PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the green light to proposals for a community grocery shop serving affordable food.

The scheme was submitted by Christian charity group The Message Trust in partnership with the Bethel Free Church in Cotswold Road, Orford.

A 20×20 portacabin will be provided on land adjacent to the church and will house the shop and there would also be a 10×8 storage unit.

The aim is to supply affordable food to people in need. One full-time and one part-time employee will work on site and it is expected that 40-50 customers a day will visit the shop.

In addition to groceries, the church would also offer support services such as money management, cookery classes and job clubs.

There are 15 parking spaces adjoining the church.
