Infection rates continue to rise with 247 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Warrington

LIKE much of the country, infection rates are continuing to rise in Warrington since the arrival of the Omicron variant, with 247 new COVID-19 cases confirmed in the town and a major incident declared in London.

The 247 (277) new COVID-19 cases in Warrington reported by the UK Health Security Agency, takes the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 41,699 (41,452). There is currently no data showing how many cases of Omicron have been confirmed in Warrington.

Infection rates have risen again to 1,275 (1,253) – 608.9 (598.4) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period which remains above the national average of 587 (551.3) per 100,000, which have risen again.

Meanwhile, more than 10,000 new Omicron cases have been reported in the UK in the highest increase so far – as the number of overall COVID-19 infections exceeded 90,000 for the second day running.
The UK Health Security Agency has confirmed an additional 10,059 cases of the new variant, three times as many as yesterday (3,201) and taking the total number detected to 24,968.
Another 90,418 overall COVID infections have also been reported – an end to three successive rises, but only the second time cases have been higher than 90,000.
The mayor of London Sadiq Khan has declared a major incident in the capital over the “huge surge” of Omicron cases along with an increase in hospital admissions.
While no new measures have been announced, he said: “In the last 24 hours, we have had the largest number of new cases since the pandemic began, more than 26,000.
“Hospital admissions are going up but also staff absences are going up by massive levels, so I have taken the decision, along with our partners, to declare a major incident.”
