Opticians join forces to support food banks and feed thousands of families this Christmas

SEVEN Specsavers stores, including one in Warrington have joined forces to support key food banks in the area with a significant donation, just in time for Christmas.

Stores in Warrington, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Macclesfield, Cheshire Oaks, Widnes and Runcorn will raise funds to support local food banks and initiatives.

The stores have collectively committed to donating £1 from the sale of each eye test in their stores between 29 November and 13 December 2021 or providing a fixed donation.

Together, they hope to raise many thousands of pounds for food banks and initiatives addressing food waste and food poverty. Funds raised will directly benefit local families, making a real difference in their communities during the festive season.

Donations will be sent directly to either independent food banks and initiatives or through The Trussell Trust, which manages community food banks across the region, meaning Specsavers stores can support the communities located closest to them.

Having witnessed first-hand the hardships faced by local communities this year, Specsavers teams across the region felt very strongly about helping.

Chris Graham, Specsavers store director, says: ‘Our local communities are continuing to recover from the impact of the pandemic, and many are still finding life very difficult. We see people from our nearby communities every day in our stores and hear their stories – so we feel very strongly about doing our bit to support them.

‘The response from fellow stores across the region has been incredible and we hope to raise a lot of money to help those who really need it.

‘Funds raised for food banks near to our stores will mean much needed grocery supplies can be bought to give directly to families in need in our communities, helping them to get through the festivities and school holidays with plenty to eat.’

Specsavers stores throughout England are open for all eye care and hearing needs. To find out more information, request an appointment or browse the online store, visit www.specsavers.co.uk/stores
