A POLICE officer will be making a World Record attempt at Birchwood Shopping Centre next Saturday, December 4.

Sgt. Chris Corbett, 58, of Greater Manchester Police will be attempting to set a brand new world record for completing a marathon on a hand bike.

No Guinness World Records exists for this challenge however, Guinness have specified that for it to be considered a world record, Chris, using a handbike supplied by LiveWire Gym in Birchwood, will have to ‘hand peddle’ his way to a record-breaking 26.2 miles marathon distance (42kilometers) in under 90 minutes!

Chris is raising money for St Rocco’s Hospice Charity, who have a shop in Birchwood Shopping Centre, and is asking for donations on the day and has also set up a just giving page. www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Chris-Corbett4
On the day, Chris is also being sponsored by New Balance and the world record attempt will be taking place outside the New Balance shop inside Birchwood Shopping Centre at 11am.

John Magee, Birchwood Shopping Centre Manager, said; “This is a first for me in all my years in shopping centres and we are really pleased Chris chose Birchwood to hold this World Record attempt. Raising money for a charity close to us here at Birchwood, we know he can do it and all the staff will be cheering him on”

Chris is not new to a world record attempt, or two. Just a few years ago, Chris did the most press-ups on his knuckles in a minute, for the DofE, and did an amazing 87 in one minute and beating the previous record of 79.
That’s not all, in the past he has run a marathon on a cross-trainer to raise money for genetic conditions in children and completing it (according to Google) in the world’s fastest time at 3 hours, 6 minutes.
He will start the attempt at 11am.
