Plastic recycling plan for town centre warehouse

PLANS have been submitted to use a warehouse at Warrington as a plastic recycling facility.

The scheme has been submitted by the Hut Group and involves a proposed change of use of the warehouse in Dallam Lane.

Currently, the building has planning consent for storage and distribution.

A report to borough council planners explains that the Hut Group is one of the world’s leading online beauty and well-being businesses, retailing to people in 169 countries.

To ensure the business can meet the sustainability targets it has acquired plastic recycling firm Indigo Environmental Ltd, to enable them to bring their plastic recycling in-house.

Their aims include sending zero waste to landfill by 2030, for all plastic packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025, and to recycling more plastic than they produce by 2030.
Indigo will provide a reliable recycling outlet for the company if relocated from its existing base in Widnes to Dallam Lane where it would employ 40 people, although there would only be 20 on site at any time due to shift working. The warehouse occupies an eight acre site.
