Planners to be asked to approve new town centre bar

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to consider proposals for a new Costello’s Bar in Time Square – four months after the development was originally announced.

The scheme will be recommended for approval when it comes before the borough council’s development management committee on Thursday.
But news that the bar was to open in premises between The Botanist and Cineworld was revealed back in July.
The application to be considered next week is for replacement windows and doors, installation of outdoor parasols,  planters and café barriers to form a perimeter for an outdoor seating area and change of use to a public house, wine bar or drinking establishment.
The existing planning consent for the property is for a speculative commercial/leisure use.
A report to be considered by the committee points out that the property is within an established town centre leisure and retail complex, purpose built to allow for the establishment of hospitality uses.
“The proposal to operate a drinking establishment in this location is consistent with the nature and function of the complex and in a town centre location which is likely to assist in improving its vitality and viability,” the report adds.
Costello’s is owned by a well-known local family with existing premises in Lymm and Stockton Heath.
