Traditional “chippy” arrives in Warrington town centre

WARRINGTON has finally got a traditional fish and chip shop in the town centre.

New Cod On The Block has opened its doors on Market Gate – offering a traditional fish and chip menu to eat in or take away.

It has received a warm welcome from local residents who have long sought after a traditional chippy for the town.
In addition to the standard chip shop menu, the shop also offers healthy options including salads, jacket potatoes and wraps as well as a wide ranging children’s menu.
New Cod On The Block is the latest of the small, family chain to open after establishing itself in neighbouring towns. Founded by Harry Michaels and his daughter Despina Michaels, the shop
promises a friendly and welcoming service with disabled-friendly, accessible facilities.
Co-owner Despina said: “Since opening our doors the locals have been raving about how a proper traditional chip shop has been much needed for the town centre. We are delighted to welcome so many repeat customers already and look forward to serving Warrington with a chip shop it can be proud of.”
New Cod On The Block has been greeted with Five Star reviews on Google, with patrons applauding the staff for their excellent service, great value and generous portions.
One user, a self-confessed fussy eater, praised the restaurant for its “well cooked” fish with “lovely big white flakes”, promising to call again in the future.
While it is the first traditional fish and chip shop to open in the town centre, it will soon have competition with another set to open just around the corner on Bridge Street.
