WARRINGTON-headquartered national charity Making Space is celebrating four major award wins.

Adult health and social care charity Making Space, which employs more than 1,000 people around the UK, has won big at both the Great British Care Awards and the National Dementia Care Awards.

In the north west, Oldham Dementia Support took home the care team award at the Great British Care awards, while Warrington-based IT field technician Andrew Haworth won ancillary worker of the year at the same event.
Over the border at the Great British Care Awards Yorkshire, Sajeed Daji, who manages three supported housing services, was announced winner of the housing with care award. And Sandra Blockley, a long term volunteer with Rotherham Dementia Support, was recognised with the dementia care champion award at the National Dementia Care Awards.
Chief executive officer Rachel Peacock said: “Making Space is fortunate to have some truly incredible employees and volunteers, from the five strong Oldham Dementia Team, who supported people day and night throughout lockdowns, to Sajeed Daji, who says supported housing is his vocation.
“Andrew Howarth, clinically vulnerable as a type 1 diabetic, was a total Covid hero throughout the pandemic.
“Based at our head office in the town centre, but working all over the country, Andrew was frequently undertaking 14 hour days during the height of Covid disruption. He thought nothing of driving 700 miles in a day to deliver PPE and ensure that our IT systems were working optimally so all our services stayed connected.”
Antonia Pike, volunteering and co-production co-ordinator, said: “Volunteers are the heart, soul and engine room of any charity and at Making Space, we celebrate them every day.
“Sandra is one of our hardest working volunteers and well deserved this recognition for the unrelenting support she provides to the families of people living with dementia.
“There are volunteering opportunities at Making Space services all over the Warrington area and we would love to have a chat with anyone who would like to get involved and can offer at least an hour a week.”
