COVID-19 infection rates fall although 123 new cases confirmed in Warrington

COVID-19 infection rates in Warrington have fallen according to the latest data from Public Health England, although another 123 new cases have been confirmed in the town.

The 123 (100) new COVID-19 cases take the total number of cases in Warrington since the start of the pandemic to 25,172 (25,049). Hospital inpatient numbers have remained at 22 with five patients in ICU and one discharged.



Infection rates in Warrington for the last seven days have fallen to 635 (668) – 303.3 (319.5) per 100,000 population over a seven-day period but are above the national average of 288.3 (285.1) per 100,000, which continues to rise.
Meanwhile, England’s estimated R number has fallen slightly to between 0.8 and 1. Last week, it was between 0.8 and 1.1.
An R number – or reproduction number – between 0.8 and 1.0 means on average every 10 people infected with COVID-19 will infect between eight and 10 others.
When the figure is above 1, an outbreak can grow exponentially but when it is below 1, it means the epidemic is shrinking.
