LYMM May Queen is set to return to the village after being cancelled last year due to the pandemic, in September!

Organisers pushed this year’s event back from May to September, in preparation for restrictions being lifted, although this year’s event will still endeavour to be as COVID secure as possible, with events taking place in an outdoor arena.

Chair of Lymm May Queen Cllr Kath Buckley said: We are still living in challenging times and these have impacted all our lives and all communities.
“Lymm May Queen in response had to initially cancel the event for 2020 and decided to move this year’s event to September 25th to try and ensure that it hopefully could go ahead.
“I am pleased to say that we believe it will go ahead as planned with some significant changes. This will be the first event for the Village since this terrible time started, all the more reason for coming along and supporting this historic occasion. Don’t forget it is all open-air with plenty of space on the field.
“We have decided to retain the Queens chosen last year for this year’s crowning, so hopefully they can have their day.”
Rose Queen will be Leah Poole and the May Queen will be Charlotte Booker who are still excited and very much looking forward to being crowned.
Kath added: “I know that the 2019 Queens, Isabel Boucher and Olivia Brown thoroughly enjoyed the event and their time as Queens.
“We have also kept the Games/Olympic theme, ‘Sports through the ages’, for our programme and it will still feature the delightful designs from our primary school competition that we held in 2020.
“Our procession will be as excellent as usual and we are looking forward to the support as always from Lymm residents and the community as a whole.
“A major change will be that in order to be as Covid safe as possible we are not charging for the entrance to the event this year. We will have a crowdfunding page nearer the time and in the week before the May Queen and on the day, we will have collection tins to fund the event for next year. We will be dependant on these donations for the future of the May Queen.
“Thanks again to our new members who have continued to contribute so effectively to our team. Volunteers on the day are always needed so please contact us via our website.
“As in previous years there will be stalls/events and rides to suit all the family. There will be lots of food and drink stalls, catering for all tastes – crepes, pizzas, Thai, burgers etc.
“So here is hoping that the weather is kind and that you all are looking forward to this historic event, as we definitely are. Here’s to Lymm May Queen 2021!”
