Planners approve Green Belt dwelling for “essential” rural worker

PLANNING chiefs have given the go-ahead for a controversial scheme to build a three bedroom property on Green Belt land at Whitley, near Warrington.

The dwelling is for an essential rural worker’s use at Brookside Fishery, Tarporley Road, Whitley.
It was opposed by Stretton Parish Council and by local councillor Brian Axcell.
But it was supported by Cllr Sharon Harris and a number of other people.

Planners were told the dwelling was needed so that someone could be on the site to deal with any emergency that might arise at the fishery.
It would replace a caravan which had been granted permission some years ago.
The fishery is a long-established business in the area and the proposed dwelling will on a site already cleared of vegetation and between two large fishing ponds.
Stretton Parish Council objected to the scheme because it represented development in the Green Belt.
They argued that it was of significant proportions, would impact on the openness of the area, was not essential and could establish a precedent.
Cllr Harris pointed out that the development would help ensure the existing business continued, providing outdoor sport and recreation and employment for local people.
She did not believe it would harm the Green Belt
