A special festival celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Church of the Ascension at Woolston has not been cancelled and is set to take place next Saturday, July 10.

Ascension Fest brings to a close a year of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of The Church of the Ascension. Ascension Fest is an outdoor event that will include entertainment, a craft market, fairground rides, licensed bar, food, games stalls, a giant Lego model of the church, ice-cream and donkeys. There’s something for everyone of all ages and entry is free.
Rev. Rebecca Roberts said: “Since May 2020 The Church of the Ascension has been celebrating its 50th birthday. During this year, the building has been restored and several community activities have taken place.
“Some of our original celebration plans have been curtailed due to coronavirus, so we want to make sure Ascension Fest is a wonderful event for the whole community.”
Many other local events have had to be cancelled again this year, so organisers are really pleased that following a thorough risk assessment and putting in place covid secure measures they are able to still go ahead with Ascension Fest.
The whole event is outdoors and there will be social distancing, lots of hand sanitiser available, a regular cleaning routine and contactless payments are encouraged.
Ascension Fest is on Saturday 10th July from 11am to 4pm on the green outside The Church of the Ascension on Dam Lane and Hillock Lane in Woolston. Most stalls will be able to accept contactless payments, and there will be a token system in operation for rides and games to minimise cash handling.
