WARRINGTON Wolves recorded their biggest away victory over Wigan in more than 60 years as they won 40-14 at the DW Stadium.
Out of contract utility back Jake Mamo scored a hat-trick of tries as Steve Price’s men ran in seven tries to send Wigan to their fourth successive defeat.
The damage was done in the first quarter as the Wolves left Wigan with far too much to do.
Youngster Connor Wrench scored his first senior try for the club to get the scoring underway on eight minutes, and after Stefan Ratchford was denied by the video referee, further tries from Mamo and Matty Davis made it 18-0 after barely a quarter of the game.
The game settled down after then and Wigan got on the board six minutes before half-time through Sam Powell, with Warrington maintaining an 18-6 lead at half time after Ratchford missed a late drop goal.
Any hopes of a Wigan comeback were extinguished when Mamo snared his second interception try three minutes in to the second half to stretch the lead to 18 points.
Two tries from Willie Isa and Oliver Gildart got the hosts within 10 by the hour mark, but once Wolves skipper Jack Hughes forced his way over on 64 minutes, it was game, set, match.
Wrench broke through to set up a try for Ben Currie and man of the match Mamo grabbed his hat-trick try four minutes from time to fire a clear message that it’s time the club sorted out his future.
