Plans for glazed canopy over entrance to 171-year-old church

PLANS have been submitted for a canopy over the main entrance to the 171-year-old Lymm Baptist Church.

Church leaders believe the glazed canopy is needed to reduce the amount of rainwater which gets carried into the building during wet weather – and to provide shelter when people have to wait outside.

It would project some 2m from the front elevation of the building and would be almost 4m wide.
The church, in Higher Lane, has undergone a number of changes since it was first opened in 1850.
It was extended in 1852 and again in 1993, when a major enlargement of the building was completed.
There were further extensions in 2002 and 2003 and most recently, in 2020, a single-storey rear/side extension was added. T
Lymm Baptist Church is on the borough council’s local list of buildings considered to be of heritage value.
In addition to the congregation, the church is used by a number of community and support groups for people of all ages.
