LATCHFORD Albion’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end on Saturday, when they were defeated 46-16 by an impressive Dalton side.
Albion made a slow start, and were 12 – 0 down within the opening five minutes. However they soon found their way into the game, and two quick fire tries from in form second row Matty Nash (pictured), as well as conversions from Matty Rudd, saw the score locked at 12 – 12 after 25 minutes.

Unfortunately this was as good as it got for Albion and the hosts hit a purple patch registering four unanswered tries in 15 minutes to put them in a commanding 34-12 position at half time
An early Dalton try in the opening stages of the second half put paid to any thoughts of an Albion comeback, but they showed spirit and the remaining 30 minutes were a close affair with both sides trading a solitary try, Latchford’s coming courtesy of centre Sam Dobson.
Coach Martyn Ellis was not too downhearted despite the result and said: “ Today we were beaten by the better side – that happens in rugby. The good thing is we only have to wait seven days to put this performance behind us.
“I will place on record my thanks to Dalton, they gave us a great time, and their hospitality was much appreciated. I look forward to returning the favour later in the season.
This Saturday sees Latchford host Oldham St Anne’s A at the Victoria Park Arena, Kick Off 2.30pm
