A POPULAR fishing pond could be extended if plans being considered by Warrington Borough Council are given the go-ahead.

The proposed development involves Stanners Pool, in Sankey Valley Park which is due to be considered by Warrington Borough Council panners.
In addition to an enlarged pond, the scheme involves doubling the number of fishing pegs and paths abd earth mounding and landscaping. Provision would be made for additional disabled anglers.

There would also be planting of marginal vegetation to improve the overall nature conservation of the site.
An ecological assessment has been carried out and has concluded that s long as reasonable avoidance measures for amphibians and nesting birds and biosecurity measures are put in place to prevent the spread of Himalayan balsam, the development would have no negative impacts on the natural environment.
Access to the enlarged pond will be via the existing entrance gate off Old Alder Lane.
