WITH Prime Minister Boris Johnson set to outline tougher measures to tackle rising COVID-19 infection rates across the country a further 272 new cases have been confirmed in Warrington.

The 272 (303) new cases in Warrington in the latest figures from Public Health England takes the total since the start of the pandemic to 11,214 (10,942).
Cases in Warrington for the last seven days, previous days/updates in brackets, are 991 (857) – 471.9 (408.1) per 100,000 population – continuing an upward trend in infection rates over a seven day period.
Commenting on the escalating rates and proposed tougher measures, Warrington South MP Andy Carter said: “I’m afraid the spread of the new variant of COVID-19 has led to rapidly escalating case numbers across the country.
“Here in Warrington cases have risen by around 45% over the last seven days to over 408 per 100k, now well above the national average.
“I agree with the Prime Minister that further steps must now be taken to arrest this rise and to protect the NHS and save lives. He will set those out this evening when he makes a televised address at 8pm to update the country on the next steps to tackle coronavirus and Parliament will be recalled on Wednesday to agree the measures.”
