WARRINGTON Wolves coach Steve Price says Anthony Gelling has all but secured his place in his starting line-up ahead of the new season.
Gelling, 29, arrived in the off-season from Widnes to help fill the void left by Bryson Goodwin and Ryan Atkins, who both departed the Halliwell Jones Stadium last season.
He is set to line-up against former club Wigan in Thursday night’s opener.
Price said: “I’m pretty strong on one side, the other side is still a toss up.
“Luther Burrell has been outstanding in pre-season, his understanding of the game is far superior than it was to when he first came.
“We’ve got Keanan Brand, Jake Mamo and Toby King, so there’s a number of tough decisions I need to make, but decisions I’m glad I have to make.
“I’m really pleased with how Anthony has trained. He’s been in our top three throughout pre-season and he’s a proven winner. He’s won Grand Finals at Wigan and he understands that that looks like.
“He’s brought a really strong edge to him, he carries himself well, and I’m just really pleased with how he has gone about his business.”
