WARRINGTON Wolves’ marquee signing Gareth Widdop will miss the start of the season after suffering a lower limb injury in training, having rolled his ankle.
He is likely to miss the start of the season with his current prognosis looking at a return around round four.
Widdop will continue to be assessed, with updates to follow accordingly.
The star signing has been dogged with injury Widdop suffering a dislocated right shoulder for the third time since August 2018 when playing for St George-Illawarra last March.
He missed the end of the 2018 season and the autumn internationals to undergo surgery on the same shoulder.
Widdop also suffered an injury in Great Britain’s defeat to Papua New Guinea at the back end of last year.
The Wolves have a pre-season fixture at home to Salford to kick-start Mike Cooper’s Testimonial year, 2020 on Thursday January 23 kick off 7.45pm.
The teams will compete for the 1895 Sports Challenge Cup in the only pre-season home friendly at The Halliwell Jones Stadium.
The following Thursday the Wolves kick start the Super league season away at Wigan Warriors.
