AN accident on the M6 northbound just after junction 22 near Newton-Willows on Monday afternoon caused traffic delays stretching back to junction 20 of the M56 near Lymm.
The incident caused lengthy delays of up to 45 minutes for motorists from junction 22 for A49 Newton-le-Willows with traffic stretching back to junction 20 for the M56 Lymm interchange.
Two lanes of the motorway were blocked following the collision but the middle lane re-opened at 4.25pm.
As a result a high volume of traffic was also diverted through Warrington causing severe traffic queues on Winwick Road north bound from Tesco to Winwick.
