Witness appeal after woman dies in motorway crash

POLICE have today appealed for witnesses of a collision on the M56 near Warrington in which a 56-year-old woman was killed.
The crash was at around 5.20pm last night on the eastbound carriageway between Lymm and Stretton.
Emergency services went to the scene between junctions 10 and 9.
The incident involved several cars and a HGV. Sadly, a 56-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 62-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. A further five people sustained minor injuries.
The carriageway was shut while emergency services worked at the scene. The road was fully re-opened shortly before 5am today.
