Residents warned after spillage of unknown substance

POLICE this afternoon advised nearby residents to stay indoors and keep their doors and windows closed after a spillage of an unknown substance at a disused car wash in Booths Hill Road, Lymm.
Three fire engines from Birchwood, Warrington and Salford were sent to the scene.
The spillage was discovered around 1pm and fire crews discovered the substance had entered the drains.
The Environment Agency were informed and an investigation was started.
Later the road was closed in nearby Camsley Lane.
Firefighters were wearing specialist protective suits.
It is believed the liquid is a cleaning product but fire crews are waiting at the scene pending the arrival of a specialist company to confirm what the substance is.
People are being advised to avoid the area.
