A MAN who broke into a house at Warrington, stole car keys and then drove off in the family car has been jailed for two years and two months.
Cailen Smith, aged 19, of Wendover Road in Manchester pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary.
The court was told Smith broke into a house on Clydesdale Road, Appleton on May 6 while the occupants were asleep inside. He stole car keys and a wallet before driving off in their car.
Smith then used the victim’s bank card to buy food and drinks at McDonalds and Costa Coffee.
In the early hours of the following day, Smith woke the occupier of a house on Broughton Close, Grappenhall when he sent off a burglar alarm when he attempted to break-in to her home.
A 15-year-old boy from Manchester was also given a 20 month detention and training order after admitting burglary and attempted burglary.
Detective Constable Michael McDermott, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “Having an intruder come into your home when you are sleeping can be very frightening and nobody should ever be made to feel that way in their own home.
“I want those who have been a victim of a burglary to feel reassured that we work very hard, doing everything we can, to find those responsible.
“It is following a thorough investigation that these men are now in prison and justice has been served to the victims.”
