Latchford stalwart to lead Lionhearts tour of Jamaica

LATCHFORD Albion loose forward Danny Brown has been appointed captain for the upcoming North West Men’s League England Lionhearts tour of Jamaica.
The accolade is seen as testament to the amount of loyal service Danny has shown to amateur rugby, and also his continued commitment to Latchford Albion.
He will be accompanied on the tour by fellow Albion members Phil Woollacott and Martyn Ellis.
Phil has returned to the club in the last couple of years following a spell in rugby union, where he quickly made the number 9 shirt his own, and his consistent high levels of performance caught the eye of selectors.
This will be a second tour in consecutive seasons for the Albion hooker.
Martyn only joined the club ahead of this season, where he was appointed head coach. Since arriving he has immediately strengthened the bond between the junior and open age sections to allow a sustained pathway throughout the age groups.
As a result, a number of under 18’s players have made their first team debuts already this season.
The tour party leaves the United Kingdom on July 1. They will play three test matches, as well as competing in a 9’s tournament.
This weekend sees Albion open age side return to action after a couple of free weekends, when they travel to in form Haresfinch with kick off at 2.30pm, while on Wednesday evening, the under 18’s have a local derby when they host Crosfields at the Victoria Park Arena.
