Latchford go down after late try ruled out

LATCHFORD Albion produced a much improved performance at undefeated Blackbrook – but fell to  a 10-6 defeat in controversial circumstances when a late Albion try was harshly disallowed.
In tough conditions, free flowing rugby was always going to be difficult, and in a tense opening 40 minutes, a solitary Blackbrook score separated the sides at 4-0, although the visitors came close to scoring when hooker Dave Yii was held up over the Blackbrook line.
An early try by the hosts extended their lead but Albion again thought they had opened their account when Jake Ashall (pictured) collected Matty Ellis’ kick. However he was deemed offside and the score was ruled out.
The combination of Ashall and Ellis could not be stopped shortly after when  Ellis’ inside ball saw Ashall race under the posts, Alex Davies’ conversion reducing the deficit and, with 15 minutes to play, Albion were in a good position to kick on and try and seal victory.
With time running out, Dave Yii jumped from dummy half and used his strength to cross near the posts. However the try was ruled out when the referee could not see the grounding of the ball. Albion’s frustration boiled over and Yii was sinbinned for protesting too strongly and with that the chance of victory had passed.
This Thursday evening Latchford have a re-arranged fixture when they host Hindley with a 7.30pm kick off
