Teddy bear’s picnic raises money for Warrington Neonatal Unit

IN celebration of World Prematurity Day, Caterpillar Music held a special teddy bear’s musical picnic and raised £200 for Warrington Neonatal Unit.

Classes in Lymm, Appleton, Thelwall and Bowdon all took part with toddlers bringing in their own bears and joining in with picnic-related songs. We even jumped along to the Kangaroo song to raise awareness of the importance of skin-to-skin care for premature babies.

The fundraising event was inspired by Beth, who was born 12 weeks premature in December 2016, weighing just 2lb 12oz. Beth’s older brother, Elliot, attended the music class in Lymm and she joined him after three months in hospital.

Jan Ratcliffe, who runs Caterpillar Music, said: “Beth started coming to classes as soon as she left Warrington Hospital, when she was still on oxygen. It has been a delight to watch her grow ever since. I am thrilled to have been able to support the neonatal unit, which I know helps so many families across Warrington.”
