Wigan full-back Sam Tomkins has been handed a one-match ban for an incident with Warrington Wolves hooker Daryl Clark in Saturday’s Super League Grand Final.

Tomkins struck Clark with a knee to the head in the first half of the match that the Warriors went on to win 12-4.

There were calls at the time for Tomkins, who will join Catalans for next season, to be sent off, having also had a not too dissimilar incident with Stefan Ratchford during the game.

The RFL disciplinary panel has charged him with the Grade B strikes with knee offence which carries a one match penalty notice, which he has accepted.

He will serve the ban for Wednesday’s night England international against France, for which he wouldn’t have been considered for selection anyway.

His Wigan team-mate Thomas Leuluai has also received a one-match ban, for Grade B dangerous contact with Tyrone Roberts.

Warrington winger Josh Charnley escaped punishment for an incident where he struck Morgan Escare with a knee in a tackle, causing the Frenchman an eye injury that required stitches.
