WARRINGTON’S chances of making the top eight slipped further away as they suffered a third straight defeat as they were hammered 44-4 at Huddersfield.

The Wolves conceded eight tries as the Giants leapfrogged them in the table.

First-half tries from Ollie Roberts, Jermaine McGillvary and Aaron Murphy, were followed by two more within seven minutes of the restart tfromPaul Clough and Jordan Turner.

Jake Mamo also scored as McGillvary and Murphy each added a second.

Mamo also had two tries ruled out while Warrington’s only response came through a Tom Lineham try on 53 minutes.

The victory saw Huddersfield climb above Warrington to ninth in the Super League table.

Warrington have now failed to win any of their last four games after a dismal start to the season which saw them lose their opening six games of the campaign.

Presure continues to mount on Wolves’ boss Tony Smith, with fans continuing to call for change on social media.

Last week the club and Smith moved quickly to confirm he was still in charge after a post announcing his resignation appeared on the club’s official facebook page.

Post match Smith said: “It’s tough to watch for Warrington fans at the moment and it’s tough to be a part of it. We’re all hurting.

“It’s been a tough time, but our goal line defence needs to be much better.”

He added that Matty Russell may have picked up a medial ligament injury.
