Green belt bedsits plan approved

PLANNING chiefs at Warrington have given the go-ahead for nine bedsits in a former private gymnasium in the Green Belt.
The scheme at Holly Bank Caravan Park in Warburton Bridge Road, Rixton-with-Glazebrook was opposed by Rixton Parish Council because of its location in the Green Belt and traffic issues.
But planning officers said the proposals would involve only minor alterations to an existing building and, as such, would not be inappropriate development in the Green Belt.
Members of Warrington’s development management committee were told the building was formerly used as a private gym by the applicant’s family.
Aerial photography showed a building of similar size was present on the site in 1990 and a caravan park had existed since 1976 and was currently licenced for 75 caravans.
The building, which could not be seen from the road, would have nine bedsits, a shared kitchen/dining area and separate male and female bathrooms.
Roof lights and windows on the east elevation would be necessary but the remaining alterations would be internal. Parking for 12 vehicles was being provided.
