THE Rev Michael Mills, Vicar of St Laurence’s Church, Frodsham since 1995 has been granted the Honorary Freedom of the Town of Frodsham.

He is only the third entry on the Frodsham Town Roll of Honour – and only the second individual to receive the honour.

The award recognises his long and much valued service to the town and also his forthcoming retirement, when he will be leaving Frodsham.

It was presented at a ceremony at a special meeting of the Town Council at the Parish Hall attended by councillors and friends of the vicar.

Rev Mills, who was ordained as a priest more than 40 years ago, came to Frodsham 21 years ago from the Cinnamon Brow area of Warrington.

He said: “I never thought at the time that I would still be here 21 years later. The average time for a Church of England minister to stay in a parish is around eight or nine years.

“But it is a wonderful community, a great place to live and work in. It has a very strong sense of community and is a wonderful place to bring up children.

“People love being part of Frodsham. There are so many people prepared to serve – as councillors and in other ways – to make sure it remains a wonderful place.

“There is no doubt I will miss Frodsham very much – particularly the Christmas Festival and all the other festivals and events which make it a special place.”

In addition to his work as a much loved spiritual leader, the Rev Mills is very interested in the theatre and has been a long standing member of Frodsham Players, directing many plays for the group.

The other entries on Frodsham’s Roll of Honour are the Royal British Legion and long-standing councillor Frank Pennington.
