Disrespectful youths target Warrington Cenotaph

OUTRAGED members of the public are appealing for help to trace “disrespectful” youths who were seen throwing bottles at Warrington Cenotaph at the weekend.

The youngsters, who were also seen trying to climb up the war memorial, were seen by a a passerby yesterday (Sunday), who took a snap shot on his mobile phone and shared it on social media, sparking outrage from members of the public.

One person commented: “Hope the police pick them up and hope their punishment is to clean it from top to bottom, then maybe they might understand what the cenotaph is all about!”

Another person posted: “How dare they treat a memorial like this. They have no respect at all to those who went through the war, those who perished and those who survived hard times or lost ones.”

Local campaigner Julie Francis, who has campaigned for improvements to the cenotaph is appealing for help to trace the youngsters and is hoping CCTV footage from local businesses may help identify those involved.

She says she already has a “good lead.”

  1. With so many CCTV cameras on Bridge foot surely this has been caught on video. As for just cleaning up the mess top to bottom ??
Sure there is a more severe solution to these thugs

  2. I’m absolutely disgusted by their behaviour and their total lack of respect.
Like Indy I too would presume that they have possibly been captured on one of the Bridge Foot cameras (are they traffic cameras?) which would hopefully give a clearer zoomed in image of their faces. They shouldn’t be too hard to spot with one of them wearing a bright orange top. Comments on social media said the rubbish they also left strewn around the Cenothaph area was from McDonnalds and I’d presume they also have good cctv which would have picked them up at the time of purchase.

  3. Despite the fuzzy images here no doubt their parents will instantly recognise their thuggish offspring. I wonder how many relatives of their respective families were involved in or lost there lives WW1 and WW2?

  4. Why aren’t these thing put on the TVs ,local news some one would step forward and I D the scumbags. Passers by could have done something aswell . It’s sad the way the public just stand back and watch
