Plan to extend restaurant given the go-ahead

PLANS to re-build a  former single-storey side extension, erect a new side extension and provide additional car parking space at a former restaurant in Common Lane, Culcheth, have  been given the go-ahead by borough council planning chiefs.
The proposals will result in the currently empty building being enlarged – but will also result in additional parking spaces, including a space for disabled parking and spaces for motor cycles or pedal cycles.
Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council opposed the scheme on the grounds of inadequate parking space for the likelihood of obstructive parking on Common Lane and there was also an objection from a nearby resident.
He feared any increase in size would resulting in local residents being exposed to an increase in noise and disturbance, parking problems, noise and even fighting.
But planners decided the scheme could go ahead.  Councillors were told the scheme would provide an additional 15.7 square metres of publicly accessible space.
Vehicle access to the site would remain unchanged.
The committee was told the amount of parking available would be below standard but, because of the site’s proximity to the village centre car parks, it was considered acceptable.

  1. This is another stupid cock up by the idiotic planners. Parking facilities in Culcheth are already inadequate as anyone who lives there will tell you, another restraunt will only exacerbate the problem. Do the clowns on the planning committee even know where Culcheth is and what the current parking problems are.

    • Spot on Jim. Nodding through this application (for yet another eatery) adds to the congestion and parking problems resulting from all the other ‘facilities’ that have been approved in and around the junction of Lodge Drive/Common Lane/Wigshaw Lane – now with increasing frequency a severe bottleneck. When approving them very little thought or planning seems to have been given to the effect they have on the local road network.

  2. As you probably know Steve this was a very popular India restaurant and a French Bistro before that.

Does anyone know what cuisine will be sold in future?

What are the hours that it will be open ?

If it’s largely evenings then the extra spaces will com in very useful to shoppers during the daytime.
