Afghan war hero inspires Wolves’ business club members

AFGHAN war hero Corporal Andy Reid was guest speaker at Warrington Wolves’ Business Club breakfast meeting as club captain Chris Hill picked up his Player of the Month Award.

Andy lost both his legs and his right arm after stepping on a land mine in Afghanistan while serving with the third battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment in 2009.

He astounded people with his recovery, spending only two weeks in hospital before returning home.

Living in nearby St Helens, his inspiration includes former rugby league player Steve Prescott, whose motto was “what the mind believes, the body achieves.”

As well as various charity work involving sky diving and taking part in a 10k, Andy has also set up two businesses, a wine bar and a coffee shop since leaving the army.

He has also written his autobiography “Standing Tall.”

Meanwhile Chris was presented with his Player of the Month award, as voted for by his team mates, by Lee Herbert from club sponsor Martin Dawes.
